Phillip Pournelle served for 26 years in the United State Navy as Surface warfare Officer, military planner, and an Operations Analyst before retiring as a Commander. Afloat he served on Cruisers, Destroyers, Amphibious Ships, and a High Speed vessel. Ashore he served on the Navy Staff in the Assessment Division (OPNAV N81) where he was the founding director of the Navy’s World Class Modeling project. He served at the Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) Cost Assessment and Program Evaluation (CAPE) for three years and five years at the Office of Net Assessment. He has a masters degree in Operations Analysis and was the chair of the Military Operations Research Society (MORS) special workshop on wargaming in 2016 and 2017.
